Debra was working as a programmer for a company that develops application software. We were on-line one night and I asked her about her work. She told me it was complicated to explain. Debra told me "I guess, in layman’s terms, you could say. I make sure a website when visit, brings up advertising for that visitor. In other words, say Laurie last shopped for software in the security industry. The application that I set up for that web design or queue will read what kind of shopping she has done in the past and will go out and bring an advertisement into that website of a security product that she might buy."

Debra further explained a programmer is also a person who writes a program. Sometimes a program requires many programmers to make it. I was chatting back and forth with her on a messenger program. She told me that many people work on government projects at one time to get a program completed; sometimes it takes many years to complete that particular project. I told her when I was a small child I was watch television and saw a super computer that took up several rooms. Through messenger she explained that those days are long gone, that the technology has progressed in the direction of small and faster.

All I know, I enjoy the many different kinds of work a programmer does. I log On-line every day. I along with millions of other on-line users, use the messenger programs every day. The Programmer is the backbone for the on-line experience? I think that just might be a very real truth. I talked with her a while longer, and I can't say that understood every detail, I think what she does is a great contribution to the World Wide Web.

I found out today that Ridge my nephew who is only 15 is learning in school how to make a program. He called and we were chatting about Debra and he informed me that being a programmer is easy. That he is working on a game program in school. Youth and what they will bring to our world will be more amazing than anything that has come before them.
