My brother had been a website designer for about four years now, and it had began to get on my nerves. His constant hogging of the computer and the wifi got to me, as it took forever to even load my home page or a simple search engine. We had been looking for a new router for quite some time, one with a decent wifi connection so that I could use my brand new laptop anywhere around the house, as long as I was in range of it.

We used the good old search engine, Google, to find out what our options would be. Most of them said to get a top of the market router, but we could not afford that. Some forums suggested us to have a simple, quick to load home page with not many images or videos to load, such as a search engine or even no home page at all. They said that this would make the internet quicker because not as much would have to be loaded. I believed them, and so simply decided to change my home page at first, as this was the cheaper option of the two.

Initially, this did have an effect. I don't know whether the wifi signal was stronger or the forums were correct, but it seemed to work. My web pages would now load in half the time, and what seemed like twice the quality. No longer was I able to make a cup of tea before the web page had loaded. I could no longer watch the end of a television program before a 1 minute video had buffered. I was able to finally play online bingo with my friends, without them calling me to tell me that I had won before my screen shown that I had even started.

It was heaven. My router was a lot faster simply because of a home page change. I would have been stuck without the help of the forums, stuck with a computer that wouldn't load even if I gave it a good kick. I believe the internet community is one not to be frowned upon.
