Matthew worked for a firm of web designers but was constantly looking for a way of earning a living on-line without having to work for anyone. He had thought about working as an independent web designer but realised that it would take a lot of time to build up a big enough client base for it to become a viable proposition for him to do it on a full time basis. However, the idea of sitting at home and making money on-line using only his laptop appealed to him greatly.

He looked at on-line investing offers which promised almost unbelievable returns. He soon found to his cost that most of these were fraudulent and that the remainder were so ill conceived they were bound to fail. He recalled the old maxim. The greater the potential return, the greater the risk. Fortunately he had only risked a modest amount on these sites.

He then looked at possibility of on-line investing in the Stock Exchange and began to experiment, again in a modest way. This time he found that over a six month period he was showing a very small profit but very soon came to realise that in relation to the amount of time he was spending on-line, it was just not worth the effort. Although he had read about people making very large sums of money through on-line investing he reluctantly came to the conclusion that it was not for him.

Despite this, the idea of sitting at home and making money using his laptop just would not go away. Then the thought struck him. He was a collector of match box toys and over the years he had built up a very comprehensive collection. This was an area where he had expert knowledge and was also a source of great enjoyment. "I should make my hobby pay" he thought. "Why did I not think of this before?"

Before long he had launched himself into the world of buying and selling on-line. At first he stuck rigidly to his area of expertise and soon he had made enough money to buy himself a top of the range laptop. This encouraged him to become more ambitious. Within a year he had become collectible toy specialist and left his web design job.

Not only had he achieved his ambition of working on-line from home, he was doing something that he immensely enjoyed.
