I was on the computer the other day in a chat room when my Internet went down. I did all the usual things to try and get it up and running butit wouldn't work. I phoned my broadband provider and found out they were having problems there end and they are trying to fix it. I asked my friend who is a computer programmer, about his broadband provider as I know he hardly ever has problems and I have had quite a few with my broadband provider. He gave me his providers telephone number and I phoned them up. It was cheaper than the broadband providers that I was with, so I decided to swap to them. Since then I have had no problems, my PC runs much smoother and my laptop is fast as lightening now.

I was talking to a computer programmer in a chat room and was asking about what he actually does and what computer programming involves. I didn't realise just how complex being a programmer is so I decided to do a bit more research on it, so next time my friend talks to me, I will actually understand what he is talking about. I was quite surprised to read that there is an ongoing debate about programming and whether it is an art, craft or engineering discipline. Another ongoing debate is about the extent of which the programming language used in writing computer programs affects the form that the final programtakes. -Yer it didn't make much sense to me either the first 3 times I read that!

I also read that the concept of programming came from Greek mythology. The earliest known programmable machines were made in 1206. Can you believe that? Electricity wasn't even invented then! I find that amazing. I thought that website designers and programmers were basically the same thing, but while I was reading upon programming I came across a section explaining the differences between the two. After reading it, it made sense, but it is all very complicating, I think when it comes to computers I shall just stick to paintbrush and the chat room I go on.
